Server problems solved
After tearing my hair out for a few days trying to figure out why neohippie.net didn't look exactly like www.neohippie.net I finally figured it out. As always, it was simpler than I thought... When I moved to Slicehost, I never updated DNS for the parent record to point here, only www and various other CNAMEs. At the moment, I've taken the phx2 mirror out of DNS rotation until I get around to fixing the sync scripts to work on stl1 (slicehost).
I'm hoping to get some time this weekend to come up with a better theme for this site as I'm already getting tired of it being so minimal. At work, I've been doing a lot of AJAX lately and want a place where I can play with it without having to follow somebody else's rules. I also want to see how much of a pain it is to do AJAX with Django. As far as I know, all you need to do is create a new template that outputs something resembling XML instead of HTML. In theory, it should even be possible to use the same views.
I've been on Slicehost for just over a month now and have to say that I'm really impressed. When I first signed up I figured that there might be occasional downtime based upon what I was seeing in the archives of the Slicehost blog but there have been incredibly few, if any, outages since I signed up. The only problem (if you can call it that) is the waiting list that now exists for new signups. I ended up waiting a mere five days, compared to the lead times that are now estimated at six weeks (ouch). Slicehost is offering an awesome service at a great price, even with the wait times. Keep up the good work guys!
At some point, I'll get around to writing a guide detailing the process I took when building my slice up the way I like it. I've managed to get everything tweaked to the point where I can run Apache, MySQL, mod_python, php (fcgi), postfix, asterisk, and memcached on a 256 slice and I've still got 70 MB of memory free on average.
I'm going to see Lewis Black at St. John Fisher tomorrow night so I'm going to catch some sleep. More updates/content/news/neat stuff coming soon.
