CSH, Registered for Classes
In an attempt to find decent housing for next year I decided to throw in an application for Computer Science House. I went over to NRH last night around ten to follow up on things. I got much more than I expected. They interviewed me fairly informally (there was a hatchet involved) and told me to come back next Monday for the evaluations meeting. I was also advised that it might be a good idea to hang around and get to know some people on the floor... That'll increase my chances of getting accepted.
So I wandered up and down the hall for about an hour, meeting random people who looked just as confused as I did. Soon thereafter, I found out that there would be some midnight grilling of burgers outside. In a "why the hell not?" moment, I grabbed a bag of burgers and tagged along. Not quite sure why I was so inclined to venture into sub-freezing temparatures in the middle of the night to make burgers, but it sounded like fun. As we were getting the grill started, I realized that I already knew most of the people standing there. A girl from my math class, a guy that was at 264 Colony a few weeks ago, and a bunch of other random people that I didn't realize lived on CSH.
A couple hours later, I couldn't feel my toes and decided that it might be a good time to go inside. Normally at this point I would have called it a night, but I was just having way too much fun and wasn't tired enough to go back home yet. So I went back to CSH. I watched an episode of Invader Zim in some random room then wandered around a bit more, got an informal tour of CSH, and saw part of Spaceballs that happened to be on a TV in the lounge. All of this was topped off by a viewing of "The Atomic Bomb Film" that I had neither heard of or seen before. It certainly lived up to the name... A film about the atomic bomb. Now, I have no problem with watching the History Channel or old filmstrips, but I don't usually think of those as very social activities. Those activities are reserved for when I'm out of other stuff on my MythTV box and when I need something to put me to sleep.
Sure enough, the film started to put me to sleep. I ended up laying down on one of the couches for a while and just absorbing random facts. Did you know that the band "Operation Ivy" got their name from the first H-Bomb test? Didn't think so. The next time I looked at the time, it was three in the morning. Normally this isn't a problem for me, and it wouldn't have been if my room had been just down the hall, but I still had to walk all the way back to Sol and get ready for bed. I would have just slept there on the couch if I didn't think that it would reflect badly upon my CSH evaluation.
So I excused myself and retreated to the comfort of bed. However, I was unable to sleep. By the time I was ready for bed, I only had an hour to kill before registration for classes opened up. So, I wasted an hour. After registration opened, it took me a total of 27 minutes to get into SIS and get into my classes. A far cry from my registration time last quarter... 8 minutes. Better luck next year. Here's my schedule for next quarter.
By the time I had registered myself, my roommate, and the guy from down the hall, I had only three hours to kill before Theatre Arts class. I tried to sleep for about an hour with no success. I have trouble getting to sleep if I know that I have to wake up soon. So I decided that rather than sitting there fighting my instinct to get some rest, I'd take a walk over to Java's and hang out there until class.
Here I am. Sitting in Java Wally's, looking out the window at another snowy Rochester day, blogging the last twelve hours, and wondering why I'm not in bed. I do know that last night was hella fun and CSH seems like the right place for me, without a doubt in my mind. Cross your fingers that I get in.
